Public Engagement and Outreach
Public Engagement
Public engagement is a cornerstone of our mission, helping to bridge the gap between academia and the wider community while fostering a culture of openness and collaboration. By demystifying complex scientific concepts and making them accessible and relevant to everyday life we enhance public understanding and appreciation of science but help inspire the next generation of researchers and innovators. Our commitment to public engagement is rooted in the belief that science should be inclusive and participatory. By involving the public in our research, we gain diverse perspectives that enrich our work and ensure it addresses real-world needs.
For our students, public engagement offers valuable opportunities for personal and professional growth. They develop essential communication skills, learning to convey complex ideas clearly and engagingly to diverse audiences. These skills support their ability to collaborate across disciplines and sectors, preparing them for successful careers in academia, industry, and beyond.
By embedding public engagement practice throughout out programme, we ensure our students grow not only as researchers, but also as effective communicators and ambassadors for their fields.
Bridging Science & Society
Our student-led team is dedicated to opening up conversations about transport, inspiring people with the opportunities and challenges in mobility. We believe transport is a dynamic, co-created space, and through our activities, we invite participants to notice and rethink their transport choices.
Our interactive exhibits range from disassembling elector motors to exploring dynamic maps of the UK's multimodal highways and we have extensive experience engaging diverse audiences, from schoolchildren to policymakers. Notable events include:
Our hands-on approach engages everyone, from energetic children to curious citizen-scientists, making transport research accessible and exciting. We're always looking for new opportunities, so contact us if you'd like us to participate in your event. aapscdt@bath.ac.uk
